Digital Audio Workstation Overview
DAW Devices Part I
Digital Audio Tape (DAT) Machine
This is a DAT machine--a professional exporting device often used to transfer high quality analog audio for mastering. To use it, you will have to unplug the two output cables coming out of the back of the DAT and plug them into the input for the two DAT tracks (currently the Pod Pro is connected to these two tracks). Then you would route the tracks to 1/2 and transfer audio to one of the programs.
The Pod Pro
The Pod Pro allows us to have a multitude of simulated amplifiers for guitars without bringing anything but a guitar and a pick into the DAW. Amplifiers are modeled after guitar amplification sound off of CDs. For example, the Brit Classic sounds very similar to Angus Young's amplifier on AC/DC's Back in Black. Any setting can be modified and allows effects to be added. Make sure to route the Pod Pro through the soundboard by sending the Pod Pro's channel (which is actually labeled "DAT") to the Digi002 and the L/R channel in order to hear the guitar while you are playing.
The Digi002
This soundcard was made specifically for ProTools, but is used for our other programs as well. Anything routed to 1-2 will be routed to the Digi002 (note: do not route the Digi tracks (3 & 4) to itself (1-2) or you might get some horrible feedback). When recording, make sure that all of the little buttons above the four gain knobs are pushed OUT. Turn Gain knob 1 up if you are recording from a Mic/Guitar and turn up Gain knob 2 if you are transferring audio from the tape deck to a program.
