DAW Devices Part II

The Roland

Remember that Casio keyboard your mom bought for you when you were 13 so you could rock out? Well this soundbank will provide similar rockin' sounds. The Roland performs functions the brain of the keyboard would normally process and outputs to the monitors (as long as the button on the Midi Man is pushed OUT).  This device is used primarily as a preview device because we usually use the computer's software instruments when recording.

The Tape Deck

Some of you might be wondering what a cassette player is doing in such a state of the art studio. Well, the truth is many professors and students are taking advantage of it. Some linguistic programs are on tapes and some people record conversations on cassettes. If these individuals want to export their audio to the internet to be available to the masses, then it must be converted into digital media. Route the tape player to the Digi002 (1/2), press play on the tape player and record the signal exported in the recording program you are using.

The MIDI Man

the midi man

The MIDI Man is a switch which can send MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) information from the keyboard to either the Roland or the computer. PLEASE NOTE: if you are recording with the keyboard, the black button must be pushed IN. If it is not pushed in, the sound will not go to the computer! Don't be fooled by hearing the keyboard playing through the Roland before you open a program.
