The Monitors

monitors

On both sides of the DAW you will notice what you might call "speakers"--these are actually self-powered studio monitors.  Unlike stereo speakers, monitors reproduce the sound almost exactly as it is put in (no filtering or amplification).  This helps us make sure the audio sounds good before we export it, and even better on our home stereo speakers.

Power Conditioners

pwr conditioners

The library has old wiring and since we live in a city we have a lot of "garbage" (technically speaking) in the electricity. The power conditioners have capacitors which store up the electricity, take the garbage out of it and make sure the stream of electricity is constant. Unconditioned electricity can make the audio sound garbled and add static so these power conditioners are very important. They are also important for another reason: everything in the DAW is powered through them. So the "keep on" suggestion isn't just there for show.  Even if you want to conserve power, please don't touch these switches--if they are turned off, the system is reset and can cause a lot of problems. So again, please leave them on.
