Installing Virex
Viruses generally aren't as big of a problem in the Mac world, but it can't hurt to be prepared.
The UWICK (UW Internet Connectivity Kit), available to all UW Students either for purchase on CD for $1 or for free download contains a copy of Virex 7.2, with access to updates for as long as you are a UW Student.
After you have obtained the software, run the installer and follow the directions on screen to install Virex. After you have finished installing the software, it will prompt you to check for updates. Checking for updated virus definitions is always a good idea, so by all means, do.
When you run Virex, you should see a window similar to the one below:

Virex is a very simple application. To manually initiate a virus scan by clicking the "Scan" button. To set Virex to scan automatically, click on the Preferences button. You should see a screen similar to the one below.

Virex only has one option for scanning and checking for updates automatically: to do so at login. Go ahead and choose those options. If your computer isn't always connected to the Internet at login, be sure to check for updates automatically to compensate (however, as of writing, the last Virex update was a few months ago, so don't worry about doing this every day!)
