This document explains how to get files from and save files to a remote server at your local computer using the Fugu program for Macintosh OS X.

Before you start

You will need:

Locate the file you wish to retrieve.

When you open your server connection, you will see a list of files and folders in the right pane of the Fugu window. This is the top level of your account on the remote server. You might need to open a folder (by double-clicking) to locate the file you want to save to you local computer.

Courses, Staff, or Student servers, your files will be located somewhere within the public_html directory of your account in order to be visible on the World Wide Web. Your public_html directory should be visible among the files in the remote system's window when you first connect to your server. Open it by double-clicking on it.

Decide where you want to save the file.

In the left pane of the Fugu window, find the location you want to save the file. To save the file, click and drag the file from the right pane into the appropriate location in left pane.

Downloading a file with Fugu

Open the file.

You can now open the file using whatever software is appropriate. If it is a Web (HTML) document, for example, you might choose to open it with one of several HTML editors. Many email attachments can be opened using Microsoft Word.

Conversely, saving a file back to the server.

If you want to save a file back to the server (e.g., upload a file to your dante account), then simply drag the file from the left to the right.
