Introduction

SSH Secure File Transfer Client® is a file transfer program available on Windows computers. It gives you access to files saved on other computers through the Internet, such as University of Washington Uniform Access computers (Dante and Homer).

Logging In

  1. Using the mouse, click Start > Save to Your Account.

  2. In the window that appears, make sure that Host Name says dante.u.washington.edu for students or homer.u.washington.edu for faculty/staff.

  3. Enter your UW NetID in the User Name box

  4. Click Connect

  5. Enter your password

  6. Click OK

  1. Save your file to the desktop.

  2. Make sure to close the program you were editing your file in.

  3. Click and drag the icon of your file into the right-hand pane of the window.

  4. A progress bar will appear to inform you of the transfer’s status.

  5. A copy of the file will appear in your account.

  1. Click and drag the icon of your file out of the right pane and onto the desktop.

  2. A progress bar will appear in the bottom pane to inform you of the transfer’s status.

  3. A copy of the file will appear on the desktop.

Logging Out

When you are finished, exit the program by selecting File > Exit, or by clicking the X button located on the upper right hand corner. Confirm your exit by clicking Yes.

Changing Permissions

If you are uploading files to your web space, you will need to change the permissions so that other people can read the files. To do so, right-click on the file and select Properties. Enter 750 in the Permission Mode box.
