Customizing Excel
MENUS
The first thing that you will notice is that there is a not a traditional menu bar. In Microsoft Office 2007 the old menu bar has been updated with a more graphically friendly view.
Instead of a File menu that most traditional Windows applications have, all Office programs now have a button in the top called the Office Button>insert image<. This button is where all the New, Open, Save, Print, and Close are found.
Rather than the old text based menu bars and tool bars, there are seven tabs and an Office Button to help create your Excel 2007 documents. Just by selecting a tab, many options will be displayed as buttons with small icons that will help identify the tools and options visually. The images show all the tabs and the Home tab selected with all the options available under the home tab. On these tabs there are groups. The groups contain like features and options. There is an extended options window by clicking the arrow in a box>insert image< just right of the group name.
RIGHT-CLICK SHORTCUT MENU
These features allow you to access various Excel commands and functions faster than using the menu bars. Use the right-click on your mouse to bring up these options. Depending on what element you have selected when you right-clicked the options will vary. For example,
the shortcut in the image below is from right clicking.... <insert image>
This menu allows you to use the most common Home tab tools without having to click on the Home tab.
Home Tab
The Home tab at the top of the window contains most of common text editing tools used in Excel. Using it the text, formatting, align, and much more can be changed and edited. A smaller version of this tab can be found by using the right-click shortcut menu while navigating within the document.
