Lists

There are a lot of options regarding lists created and edited in Word.

Bulleted and Numbered Lists

  1. Click the Bullets list button or Numbering list button in the Paragraph group on the Home tab.
  2. Type the first entry and press <Enter>. This will create a new bullet or number on the next line. If you want to start a new line without adding another bullet or number, press <Shift> + <Enter>.

Use the Increase Indent <insert image> and Decrease Indent <insert image> buttons in the Paragraph group of the Home tab to create lists of multiple levels. These buttons are also found by using the right-click shortcut menu.

Alternatively, you can use <Tab> to increase the indent and <Shift> + <Tab> to decrease the indent.

Nested Lists

To create a nested list, such as a numbered list inside of a bulleted list, follow these steps:

  1. First create the list and then increase the indentation of the items that will make up the nested list by clicking the Increase Indent button for each item.
  2. Highlight the items and click the Numbering list button in the Paragraph group of the Home Tab.

Formatting Lists

The bullet image or numbering format can be changed by using the bullet style menu attached to each button. Just go to the arrow next to the respective button and click to select among various bullet options to be displayed.

By changing the attributes of the Multilevel List button, you can change how the lists and nested lists will behave when you increase or decrease the indent.
