Optimizing our Images

Help Center > Adobe ImageReady > Optimizing our Images

ImageReady was created for the purpose of helping users to get the images they created in Photoshop onto the Web.
With that in mind we can see that our main window is different in ImageReady than it is in Photoshop.
You will notice a few tabs above our image marked Original, Optimized, 2-up, and 4-up.

Before we talk about what these all mean we must first define what optimized really is.

An optimized image is really just a modified version of your original image into a compressed formate or a different format that is suitable for the web.

There are several steps to creating and viewing an optimized image.

  • First select the optimized tab in your image window
  • Next select the optimized tab in the (Info/Optimized/LayerComp) Palette
  • Next select what you which format to convert your into.
  • For more advanced settings you may change other components such as colors, dither, and transparency.

The optimized view helps us see what our image will look like before we export it out to the web.
The 2-up and 4-up tabs are there so that we can preview several different formats to see which looks the best for our purposes.

To change the optimizing options of an image in the 2-up or 4-up mode just select the image you wish to change options for by clicking on the image and change the settings in the optimize pallet.

To save your image click back on the optimized tab in the image window, then select File > Save optimized as. Or if you are in the 2-up or 4-up mode just click on the image you want to save and select File > Save optimized as.
ImageReady will now save your document with the new optimized settings.
