Set Up a Document for Review
Set up a document for review.
- Access the link to the Peer Review Main Menu by clicking on it or by copying and pasting the link into the address bar of your Internet browser. In the Peer Review Main Menu, select the "Setup a new document for review" option, and then click "Next".
- This page, "Set up a new document", will allow you to title your document. The title will be displayed in the left frame in Peer Review.
Next, select the assignment to which this document relates. Notice that assignments can only be turned in between the start and due dates. Also, if you have previously submitted the document, it will be marked "Complete" and you will not be able to resubmit it. However, if the Peer Review owner has authorized editing and deleting, you can delete an existing document in order to submit a new one, or edit a document online.
Once you have given your document a title and selected an assignment, click "Next". - On the "Saving your new document" page, you have three ways to turn in your document:
- As a URL link: You can provide a link to your document if it already exists somewhere on the Internet. If the document is in HTML or text format (.txt) the Peer Review system will make a copy of the file at that moment and add the text to the database. If the file is not an HTML or text file then Peer Review will create a link to the document. If the comments on this assignment are at the paragraph or sentence level you must submit a document in HTML or text format so that Peer Review can insert comments in the proper locations.
- Upload a file: You can easily upload a file from your local desktop machine. To do this, click on the "Browse" button. Locate the file on your computer, select it, and then click "Open", and it will be added in the text field. Only HTML and text (.txt) files may be uploaded. Once you have selected your file, make sure you select the format of the document, either "text" or "HTML".
Peer Review will not upload a Microsoft Word document in .doc format. Instead, save the document as a Web page (.html) or text (.txt) format and then upload it to Peer Review, or use the "Cut and Paste" option described below.
- Cut and Paste:
Use this method to cut and paste any text from a word processor, editor, or Web page directly into your Peer Review document. Highlight the text that you would like to place on the Peer Review, copy, and then position your cursor in the text box and paste. Once your text has been entered, make sure you select the format of the text, either "text" or "HTML".
Text from Microsoft Word documents can be cut and pasted into Peer Review, but any special formatting (e.g. bold text, special fonts, tables) will be lost.
- The Peer Review examines your HTML documents to determine if there are links to images, multimedia, or stylesheets. If any links were detected, you will be given a notice after your document has been saved. You can then upload your images and media files to Peer Review by clicking the "Load Media" button.
On the "Upload images" page there is a list of the linked objects that were detected in your document. You then have the opportunity to upload each file to the Peer Review. Simply click on the "Browse" button and locate the object on your local hard drive. After selecting the object, choose the file type from the pull down menu and click "Enter". Peer Review currently supports these object types:- GIF images
- JPEG images
- BMP images
- TIFF images
- PDF files
- Stylesheets (CSS)
As soon as you have finished setting up your document, it is available for review in the Peer Review area. It's a good idea to check your document to see how it looks in the Peer Review.
