Getting Started on Your Website
SimpleSite is a Web-based tool that lets you develop, edit, and administer Web sites associated with your UW NetID account (your homer or dante account). The URL of your Web site depends on your role at the university; for example, faculty have URLs like faculty.washington.edu/youruwnetid/, staff have staff.washington.edu,youruwnetid/, students..., courses..., etc. If you already have created Web pages on your site, SimpleSite will NOT overwrite any files in your account. It simply provides a Web-based view of your existing files, and allows you to create pages in your site with SimpleSite templates. SimpleSite also allows you to upload and manage files not created in SimpleSite, such as images and documents.
Follow these steps to begin working on your Web site:
- In the SimpleSite workspace, select the URL of the Web site you want to work with from the "Available Web Sites" drop-down menu. The URLs of Web sites associated with your UW NetID and any supplemental accounts you may own appear in your list of available Web sites. If you are an assistant on another's Web site, it will also appear in this list.If you do not see the Web site you want to work with in the drop-down menu, click Update your Web site list to refresh your list of Web sites.
- Once you have chosen a Web site to work on, select the Work on this Web site option below, and then click Next. You will move to the SimpleSite workspace.
The URL of the site you are currently working with can be found at the top right of the SimpleSite workspace (see image to the right).
