Secure a Project Web Site
You can use SimpleSite to secure your entire Web site, or specific areas of your Web site. Security can be applied to folders in your Web site (including the top level folder), but not pages. Earlier, we recommended that you organize your site using folders. Here you will reap the benefits of that organization by being able to selectively apply security to your project site's resources.
Secure your project site.
SimpleSite allows you to apply security to folders within your project site. You can require visitors to your Web site to log in with any UW NetID, a specific UW NetID from a list, or a custom username and password.
Securing a folder also secures all files and folders within this folder. Therefore, if you secure the top folder of your site, "public_html", all the rest of the files in your site will be secured as well. Note: There is no way to secure a folder and then make a file within that folder available to the general public. This is why using folders for Web site organization is so important.
