About the Template Sets

SimpleSite has three template sets that you can use when creating new Web pages. Your default template set determines which templates are available to you when you create new Web pages; changing the default template set does not affect existing Web pages created with SimpleSite. The three template sets are described below:

Classic course templates: The first template set released with SimpleSite, the classic course templates provide a basic page layout with a banner area across the top, navigation on the left, and page content on the center-right (see figure at the right). The Classic templates have seven different page templates to assist in creating a course Web site: Home page, Syllabus, Notes, Schedule, Assignments, Exams, and Generic.

Enhanced template sets: The two newest template sets each have six layout areas, a more flexible layout, and additional tools to help you create your Web pages. The "Enhanced three-column layout" templates has columns on left and right that run the length of the page vertically (see figure at the right). The "Enhanced inset layout" templates have floating boxes at left and right that just fit the content, while any text in the center column wraps around underneath them.

They both have a header, subheader, and footer that run horizontally across the page. Any of the six layout areas can be hidden if you don't want to use that space in your finished Web pages. In addition, the enhanced templates have tools for creating global navigation, a set of links you create once and use on every page in your Web site, and also global content, such as a banner or contact information.
