The Movie Maker Layout
Below is an image of the screen you'll see after opening the application. There are three important regions marked out in red.
The Movie Tasks menu makes editing with Movie Maker as simple as following a tutorial step by step. Literally it takes you step by step through your project from importing media to editing it to exporting it.
The Video Monitor is where you will be screening your project over and over while editing it, making adjustments, and finally watching your finished film before exporting it into a file that plays outside of Movie Maker.
The Storyboards and Timeline window at the bottom provides two different ways of laying out your film in a time based order. The storyboards are what you see in the image above, empty white squares where you can place particular film clips in particular order before trimming them and truly editing your film in the timeline view. Where the storyboards give general sense of placement order, the timeline shows you all of the video clips in terms of their precise duration. You'll add titles, transitions, and video effects as well as placing any additional audio you may want in your film into the timeline.
