Computer Classrooms
Catalyst's five computing classrooms are specially designed to support computer-based instruction, experimental education, and student collaboration. These facilities are available to faculty to reserve free of charge and are offered on a first-come, first-serve basis. Two classrooms equipped with PCs are available in the Odegaard Undergraduate Library (OUGL), and two classrooms equipped with PCs and one classroom with Macintoshes are available in Mary Gates Hall (MGH).

Installation of software
New policy announcement: Effective Autumn quarter 2003, Catalyst will not accept software installation requests less than 4 weeks prior to the start of each quarter.- We are no longer accepting software requests for Winter Quarter 2008.
- All software installations for Spring Quarter 2008 must be requested and all software and proof of licensing must be received by 03/03/2008.
- All software installations for Summer Quarter 2008 must be requested and all software and proof of licensing must be received by 05/27/2008.
- All software installations for Autumn Quarter 2008 must be requested and all software and proof of licensing must be received by 08/27/2008.
Installation of course-specific files or software on machines or servers should be regarded as a last-resort method. Preferred methods include distribution via the Web or departmental-based servers, giving students the widest possible access to the software.
Installation will only be granted on a space-available basis subject to approval by management. All software, files, or hardware must be available to Catalyst for testing no less than 4 weeks prior to the beginning of the quarter. If software is to be downloaded from the Internet and requires registration, the client is responsible for registration.
Software requests are not carried forward from one quarter to the next. Please resubmit your requests each quarter.
All software, files, or hardware must be compatible with the standard Computer Classroom configurations for Macintosh OS 10.3 and Windows XP computers. Functionality will be tested and approved by Catalyst staff. Any software, files, or hardware found to conflict with standard Computer Classroom configurations will not be installed. Requestors will be notified one week prior to the start of the quarter.
Installations will be completed at least one week prior to the start of the quarter. The Computer Classroom requestor will be contacted by Catalyst staff to schedule a meeting to test the software. The Computer Classroom requestor must be available at a mutually agreeable time at least one week prior to class. If problems are detected, the staff will correct said problems before the class starts, or identify those problems which are not correctable. If the reservation requestor does not come to test the software prior to class, Catalyst is not responsible for support on the day of class.
In the event that problems arise with custom software installations, Catalyst staff can not guarantee the issue can be resolved during that class session. We will make every effort to correct the issue before the next class session.
There is a $70 fee for software testing and installation for all groups that are not state-funded credit courses.
Printing
Printing services are available in the Copy Center on the first floor of OUGL and in the CRC on the first floor of MGH (please note: the CRC is closed during quarter breaks and printing is only available in OUGL. MGH rooms CAN print to OUGL). Both instructors and class participants may print files for $.10/page.
In OUGL, payment can be made using a Copy Quick Card, cash, check, or budget number. In MGH, payment can be made using a Copy Quick Card. Students scheduled for training events within the training facilities are responsible to pay for and collect their print jobs.
Please note: Catalyst does not collate, distribute, or photocopy print jobs.
Instructor Support
Instructors can reasonably expect to have whiteboard pens and erasers available, and a working projection system in each of the Computer Classrooms. Catalyst does not provide classroom supplies other than those listed above.
Catalyst Part-Time Student Consultants are available as Teaching Assistants for limited projects. To request a teaching assistant please fill out the necessary portion of the on-line reservation request form when submitting your computer classroom request.
