Learning Spaces

Catalyst supports the use of technology in teaching and learning through the design and operation of dynamic learning spaces. These spaces provide students and instructors access to powerful computer workstations, useful software packages, and innovative technology studios. We collaborate with clients and partners in the design and development of learning spaces, as part of our continued effort to provide the best possible resources for teaching, learning, and collaboration.

Workstations

Computing Commons

Catalyst's premier learning spaces include the Mary Gates Hall Computing Resource Center, and the Odegaard Undergraduate Library Learning Commons. These facilities provide much more than just a place to check email and do word processing; they are co-located with other key services, to provide students with a rich set of resources that enhances learning.

LT Workstations

The LT Labs program provides centrally managed and supported networked computers at various locations. In eight libraries, Access+ workstations add office productivity and academic research software to the normal services -- email, Internet access, and library databases -- provided by library terminals. The Introductory Programming Lab (IPL) is equipped to meet the needs of students in programming classes.

Printing

Printing, provided by Publication Services, is available from all Catalyst workstations.

Technology Studios

Our Technology Studios provide clients an intimate setting for experimental projects and collaboration. Reservation is required.

Digital Audio Workstation

The Digital Audio Workstation is a professional digital-audio studio that utilizes industry-standard computer, recording, mixing, and sound-processing hardware, and audio software for professional audio recording and editing.

Digital Presentation Studio

The Digital Presentation Studio is a private space for clients to rehearse and record presentations for practice and review.

Collaboration Studio

Our Collaboration Studios facilitate in-person, interactive, small group projects.

For Instructors and Staff

Computer Classrooms

Catalyst provides five technology classrooms designed for hands-on, computer-based instruction, experimental education, and student collaboration.

Videoconferencing Facilities

Video Conference spaces allow geographically separated groups to meet and collaborate using various types of video conference technologies.

Center for Teaching, Learning & Technology

The Center for Teaching, Learning and Technology provides walk-in assistance to UW faculty and staff who have questions about educational technology.

Learning Technologies Labs Service

The Learning Technologies (LT) Labs service provides departments at the UW-Seattle campus an affordable way to have secure, well-managed, robust client workstations without the need to hire staff to image and maintain equipment.
